Brass Monkey –2007
The weather was kind for the first Brass Monkey Rally run by the Classic Motorcycle Club of Victoria. The Rally has been going since the late 1970’s and been with the Vintage Club until the early 2000’s. There were a few years missing in the early part of the century then it was resurrected by the Indian Club. After discussions with the Indian Club it was decided that The Classic Club could take over the event. This rally is one of the best attended and the mix of machines and people is fantastic. Some people get together on Friday night but the main venue is Saturday night.
The Rally.
The Saturday started a bit overcast but not much came from the sky during the day. The run started outside the Governor Gipps Motel in Tralagon at 10.30 and preceded through some of the most spectacular countryside close to Melbourne. The loop chosen by Ed was about 250 Kms with a couple of cunning shortcuts if the weather turned on us. The small West Gippsland towns were passing by at a good rate with the crew splitting up at Leongatha for lunch. No trailer passengers yet. Mostly on ridge roads the run then proceeded to Thorpedale for an afternoon tea stop followed by another good run back to Tralagon. Some local club members from Leongatha remarked that they had not been on some of the roads we were on for many years. Ed Knows his territory.
A get together at the RSL club filled 35 seats that night and the exercise walking back to the Motel did us good. The RSL always puts on a good feed.
Sunday was clear skies and not much above 0. 10 am start saw us head north up to Walhalla through Moe , Rawson and finally to Walhalla. Cup of tea, a bit of a wander around the back to Tralagon for a lunch time. Around 120 Kms on this loop.
This Rally really had a good variety of bikes with members from the Classic Club, Indian Club, Vintage Club , British Two-stoke Club and of course our 2 Early model H-D Guests of Jim and Animal. 39 Entrants on the first day. A few dropped out for the second day but also a few more entered. There is many Rally years of life left in this area . Speak to someone who has been on a Brass Monkey and come along to the next one.
