warr_09It was raining as we left Melbourne on Friday and we naturally expected snow in Warrnambool.   To our happy surprise the sun was shining on our arrival and this lovely weather continued on for the balance of the weekend.  We joined Keith & Belle for dinner on Saturday night at the usual Macy’s Hotel.   Unlike most years, we were the only CMCV patrons.
The next day as we started out Kays new tank cap started erupting petrol on the way to the run.  She was a little anxious at being ignited with a stray cigarette, so not to miss the ride she allotted to go pillion on the R80G/S. As it turned out the extra weight on the back improved the stability of the bike.
Go to the Gallery for some great photos.

Saturday pm we all fronted up at the Spence Street departure point to receive our Rally Packages and catch up with our Warrnambool friends in attendance.  Promptly at 1:00 almost 90 bikes began our afternoon tour of the Warrnambool surrounds with Cobb Owen leading on his BMW Trike ending up at the cheese factory in Allansford for Afternoon tea and cheese tasting.

That afternoon I discovered the problem with the petrol cap and rode over to the only ‘parts’ shop open after 4pm on a Saturday.  I was assisted by Michael Stevens’s son Jason and with his knowledgeable help found an O-ring to suit. Tank no longer leaks!  Seems almost every Warrnambool store has a Warrnambool Motorcycle Club member or immediate family in attendance.

That evening we gathered at the Old Collegians Football/Netball clubrooms for dinner and raffle.  It was a great night catching up with old friends, many of which had been coming to the rally for over 20 years.   We were entertained by Rex Mathieson a local Nullawarre farmer whose hobby/passion is deep sea diving around the area.   Over the years he has become an expert in the various shipwrecks off the Warrnambool coast and had a table filled with artifacts salvaged from the wrecks.  His talk was both historical and extremely interesting.

Kay and Belle were substantial winners of the raffle so we were on a lucky table that night.

Next day it was 9:00 for 9:30 so an early rise was in order.  More riders as usual today and a long Parade ensued through the town and past Glad Henderson’s house, past the breakwater and on the way to our morning tea stop in Timboon.  The weather was cool and dry and the ride past all the Western District Farms was a treat for the eyes.  The morning tea was as usual over the top with tables groaning with cakes and scones to go with the tea and coffee.

More great riding through the countryside to Cobden for lunch at the Miniature Railway Complex.  Much has been done since our last time here with tunnels and lakes and a 1.5 Km circuit.  After a delicious Lunch out in the train yard we headed back to Warrnambool with Gwenda and Neil Primmer showing the way, to get ready for the Sunday evening meal.  A personal thanks to Neil & Gwenda for transporting us to the evening venues.

Once again we had a lucky table and all on the table won in the raffle draw.  My ‘door prize’ was a cute little black flapper wig that Kay will put to good use if and when the CMCV has another fancy dress affair.  Those that attended Ballarat for the ‘Queen of the Desert’ night would know exactly what was in her thoughts.  Enough said!!!
Awards were handed out and speeches made. Recognition was made for past attendees like Vern Dalton and Graeme Randall who were unable to make it this year due to illness or operations.  Alf Berry was back receiving another award as was David Morse who may be looking for an extension to his house to place the trophies. This year the WMCC was presided over by Roy Slater.  Congratulations to all for a magnificent scenic ride as per usual and arranging such perfect riding conditions.
