Colac Rally 2009 PDF Print E-mail
colac rallyAfter the previous week of rainy weather, we were in luck as today was cool but fine, a great day for a ride!
After welcoming everyone & a run down on today’s 200km ride, we headed off.
Our route took us west up the highway to Pirron Yallock where we turned onto secondary roads through Swan Marsh, South Purrumbete and on to a rest stop at Cobden. Here we found a few bikes covered in oil (I wonder were that came from?) We continued southwards through Scotts Creek, Timboon and arrived at the Schomberg Inn at Peterborough for lunch. After finishing our meals we rode a few hundred metres to an ocean lookout at the mouth of the Curdies River in Peterborough, the sea pretty rough in the windy conditions.

Our return journey took us to Port Campbell then inland up through the farming communities of the Heytesbury for a short rest stop at Simpson.
Upon arriving back in Colac, we all stopped at my place for a cuppa with scones, jam & cream. Many thanks must go to scone maker extraordinaire, my mother Betty.
The evening meal this year was at the Union Club Hotel where everyone had plenty to eat.
Sunday promised another good day, weather wise, with around 100 kms to do today. We headed southwards to Forrest and back through Barwon Downs to the Martians Café at Deans Marsh for a morning tea stop. This is an off beat sort of place popular with motorcyclists, with another group there when we arrived. Upon leaving, we headed back through Birregurra and looped around to the north of a bone dry Lake Colac, arriving back in Colac at around midday for lunch at the Botanic Gardens Tearooms. At this point some said their goodbyes; the rest of us enjoyed lunch before they also headed home.
Thanks to Belle & Keith with the car & back up trailer which happily was not used, also those who corner marshalled and everyone for making it a great weekend.
