Friday evening I watched the local win news waiting patiently for the weekends weather forecast, then finally it was announced, Saturday terrible and Sunday torrid!. Gale force winds followed by torrential rain, how could this be, surely this can’t be correct with Ballarat being the sunshine capital of Australia.

Finally when Sunday morning arrived there wasn't a cloud in the sky just magnificent sunshine ah ha I thought to myself, seems they've got it wrong again. So out to the shed grab a bike and off down to the Krooze cafe for a coffee and wait for everyone's arrival. At 10:30 AM the Geelong riders arrived, time enough to have a coffee before we leave at 11.

Leaving Mt Helen we headed west out through Ross Creek, Smythesdale and across to Linton, there we turned right and headed up through a lovely winding heavily timbered road to Snake Valley. As I ride along enjoying the beads of sunshine as they flickered between the branches of the towering gums along the roadside, Friday evenings weather forecast was completely dismissed from my thoughts.

We rode onto Carngham then Beaufort where Andy the publican of the Beaufort Hotel had even gone to the trouble of setting up one long table for us with white a tablecloth. I can strongly recommend this venue, the service was fast, his lunch prices were realistic  and  the meals were very enjoyable, we will be back.

From there riders seemed to head off home their own separate ways, the Geelong riders headed home via Skipton . However Sunday evening 6 PM the heavens opened and the rain pelted down, and it rained for a flamin’ week so I had to eat my words after all.
