Sunday morning was a pleasant in Ballarat as ten motorcycles gathered at the Krooze Cafe for a coffee then a leisurely ride to the heritage day. We headed off down through the lovely winding timbered road to Rokewood and then on the Cressy for a toilet stop and regroup, from there on it was straight to Colac .
Malcolm and Christine had an area set aside so the motorcycles could be viewed by the public, we had only just finished taking our gear off and another seven motorcycles turn up from Warrnambool accompanied by a car as well, so in total it made for a very good and varied display of motorcycles ranging from classics through to the modern era.
As for the rest of the displays that were there for the day ,they mainly came from the rural sector with direction towards timber harvesting from the Otway’s.
One thing I did notice missing this year was the tractor pulls that were continually taking place in the arena last year, however the static display of David Brown tractors certainly made up for it. Also noted was the abundance of Massey Ferguson tractors, everywhere you seem to look there was one, all I can say is I must've had a hyperactive salesman down that way at some stage or another.
One interesting display was a traction engine driven saw bench using the old flat belt drive, I think OH&S would get a little hysterical if that type of machinery was common practice today.
Once again it was good to see Wayne Killingsworth make the effort and travel down from Melbourne, perhaps next year we might be able to encourage some motorcycles down from that way.
By about 1:30 PM we felt those who wanted to view the motorcycles would have done so and it was time to head off, in doing so we would a be home at a reasonable time.
On returning to Ballarat we stopped at the Krooze Cafe in Mount Helen and enjoyed hot coffee and a light nibble to eat. Should you be up Ballarat way make sure to call into the ‘Krooze’ it's on Geelong Rd. Mt Helen, halfway between Ballarat and Buninyong, the coffee is all ways hot, the food is good and Alan and Janeen will look after you.
