Feb Weekend Ride Report PDF Print E-mail

feb_weekendWe meet at the garage in Diamond Creek under blue skies eager for the run ahead. Reg gave a brief insight into the day's destination and we headed off.

The run headed to Whittlesea for a quick regroup then on towards Wandong and further on to Broadford for morning tea. Morning tea was at a bakery in Broadford were cakes and coffee's were consumed with much enthusiasm. I must say the vanilla slice was magnificent.

After morning tea we headed off. We travelled towards our lunch stop at Lancefield. I was amazed when we headed out that I had never been on this road before. I travel around these areas a great deal myself but it just goes to show, there is always more to learn. A brief stop at an old bridge near Pylon for a look and some photo's then off again. The roads all the way to Lancefield were fantastic both from a motorcycling and scenery point of view.

During this leg, the weather started to change. From bright and warm sunny skies at Broadford, it was now over cast with a few spots of rain. Not enough to call for wet weather gear at this point, which was just as well as I didn't have any with me anyway.

We arrived at Lancefield, lunch was at the Lancefield Bakery. The sign on the counter pointed out that the vanilla slice from the Lancefield bakery was voted the best in Victoria. Given the slice from Broadford was fantastic, what would this on be like?? I resisted the temptation I had an apple slice instead!!

After lunch we gathered and headed out for the return home. We travelled down the Lancefield road to Romsey, turned at Romsey and headed to Wallan. A brief stop at Wallan for a regroup and I left the group to head down the highway for home. The rest headed back to Whittlesea and Diamond Creek to the start.

Once again a great day of riding. Thanks to Reg for leading us around and to Bill Weedon for back up trailer duties.

Richard Sommerville.
