Macedon Ranges Run PDF Print E-mail

macedonFive riders were waiting for me at the start in Gladstone Park. I was running a little late and arrived closer to the start time than I would have liked. However we were only a few minutes behind the off as we all headed north on the first leg up the Mickleham Road.
The weather was cool but dry and some promise of sunshine ahead. At Mickelham we headed west over to Clarkefield then continued north then west again from Bolinda to Kerrie and Hesket skirting around Mnt Macedon and Hanging Rock and up to Newham. I never tire of this area, great countryside and excellent bike roads. It was in this area just east of hanging rock we passed a late model Porsche that appeared to have had some sort of argument with a tree near a driveway. Bonnet crunched in on driver’s side but not high impact and no one around.  At Newham we then road through Rochford and on to Lancefield for morning tea. Here with blue skies and lovely warm sunshine Ron West had been waiting for us and joined us in the bakery. After a cuppa and a good yak we took one or two photos in the sunshine before heading north then west through the Baynton area. We rode on as high as Mia Mia before looping down to Metcalfe and crossing over to Malmesbury. Dark low clouds were now covering the sun as we took the Daylesford road and turned off at Denver riding through part of the Wombat state Forest to Tylden then on to lunch at Woodend. Here some of us also had a fuel top up.
Burger and Tom left us after lunch to go and see a bloke and his bike at I think Gisborne, Ron also left to go home at Macedon. Thanks for joining us Ron. So now there was only Richard, Bill and Adrian with the back-up trailer following me for the last leg home. Rode down the old Calder Hwy close to Macedon, over to Riddells Creek, down through Sunbury, Bulla and on to the Tulla Freeway with Bill peeling off for home near the start. The remaining three of us then copping wet and dark conditions as we rode the final leg along the Western Ring Road. Richard for Diamond Creek and Adrian and I for my place at Yarrambat as Adrian was using my trailer. I certainly enjoyed the run and hope the others likewise.
Thanks to all who came on the run and thank you Adrian for doing back-up.
