It all started with 5 members and 2 guests meeting at the Shell garage at Laverton. The weather looked ok at this point and we all discussed the day ahead over a cuppa before heading off. At 9.00am we all mounted up and headed for our meeting point in Geelong, which was the CFA station at Corio. After an uneventful ride down the Princes freeway I lead the group around to the station and as we arrived I had a momentary heart jump when the gates were closed and no bikes to be seen. Ï am sure this was the start point", I thought to myself. Then I saw Bob Lee arrive in his ute and start opening the gate. (Heart rate returns to normal). We had arrived for the start off the 3 Rivers Run 2010, held by the Geelong-Ballarat group. As usual it all started with a bread roll and a cup of soup. Fantastic, the ladies from Geelong do a magnificent job. Thanks to all concerned. See more pics in the Gallery
After a briefing from Bob it was time to leave. 27 riders and Bob Lee doing back up trailer duties headed out for a short trip across to the other side of Geelong via the Geelong water front to the Geelong Show Grounds. Here we were let loose to explore the Machinery and stationary engine display at the show grounds. It was market day and the display is usually open. It was great to explored all the old machines from yesteryear. After a look through it was off again. This time we meandered our way through Geelong and headed the back way to Torquay. It has been many years since I have been to Torquay and what a change there has been. A lot of new housing along the beach front a new Golf course amazing how it has changed. Leaving Torquay we headed for Anglesea. This was our lunch stop. after lunch, we all gathered ready to depart on the next leg. We left Anglesea heading due north on Forest road for a regroup at Winchelsea. Most riders took on fuel and we departed for a journey through Inverleigh, Teesdale and Bannockburn During this stretch we stopped for a regroup and to bid farewell to the Ballarat riders who left for home at this point. the rest of the group arrived back in Geelong for a regroup just near the new Geelong bypass. This is where the Melbourne riders took to the freeway and headed back to Melbourne. It was a fantastic day. As usual the organisers did a great job and put on a terrific ride for us all. The weather was great, the company was great, what more could you ask for? Many thanks to all concerned for their work in organizing such a great day.
