Another great midweek run and a fairly extensive one.
Just have a look at all the places we rode through.
Shown in order, go on, have a go at mapping out the actual route:
Start at BP servo near the Thunderdome at Calder Park on the Calder Highway then Diggers Rest, Toolern Vale, Bullengerarook East, Gisborne, Macedon area, Woodend, East Trentham and morning tea at Trentham Central. Thus far we had been riding under black threatening skies and as we left the cafe there were just a few light spots of rain but not even enough to get our saddles wet or even to wipe our visors.
Most of the remaining run was still under overcast skies but remained dry with flashes of blue and sunny spells that made for quite pleasant riding conditions. Suitably refreshed we then rode on to Spring Hill, the Lauriston area, Drummond, Denver, Glenlyon, Coomoora, Dalesford, Hepburn Springs, Shepards Flat, Franklinford, Yandoit then towards the Clydesdale area before looping around and down to Werona, Kooroocheang, Blapied, Newlyn, Dean, Clarkes Hill, Pootilla, Bungaree, Wallace and lunch at the café/ general store in Gordon where Phil White and Bill Weedon let their presence be heard with their police bike sirens! I love the sound of Phil’s siren on the Indian, especially the trailing off sound. Reminds me of those old 40’s American police movies. Great stuff! I’m sure if I had that bike I’d probably be using that siren a bit more than Phil does. I love my riding through the country and with that siren I’d probably give it a blast just about through every little hamlet I ride through……….alright, alright, so I’m a bit of hoon! Old enough now not to give a bugger!
We certainly had a great variety of all the country roads out North of Ballarat on this run, just brilliant. At times I was completely disoriented but loved every minute of it.
By the way, now under new management the Gordon Café/general store has the best homemade sausage rolls in the business.
On the last blast we headed down the Western Highway where some of us dropped off at the Ballan Freeway servo for a last fuel top up before heading towards the big smoke and home.
It was interesting to note that 50% of the bikes on this run were BMW’s.
Another enjoyable run and we were lucky the rain kept away. My distance from home and back 385klms.
