Midweek Ride Dec 09 PDF Print E-mail
xmas 2009Eleven of us met on a slightly overcast but pleasant morning at a new start venue; the Caltex Servo at Tundstall Square on Doncaster Road Doncaster.   After Ed briefed us we were off on the button riding north down the Old Warrandyte Road  and through Warrandyte. A left onto jumping Creek Road through Wonga Park and making our way out of suburbia and skirting north of Chirnside Park  eventually crossing the Melba Highway at Coldstream to head along Killara road  for  Wandin North via Gruyer. Then over to Seville East and Gembrook and riding into Woori Yallock where we joined up with Conor Murphy and Rod Barker and had morning tea at the bakery. Always very pleasant riding down this area and there was plenty more to come.
Check out the Gallery for more photos.

After a chat and cuppa we rode a short distance east on the Warburton Highway before turning south into Lusatia Park Road and down through the Hoddle Creek area and then winding our way back up to Launching Place. Stunning countryside down here and so green and lush everywhere plus the bonus of great roads for bike riding.
At Launching Place we again crossed over the Warburton Highway to head up for Healesville where we rode through the high street and then north up Myers Creek Road to Toolangi, then straight back down again on Chum Creek Road. Both these roads take you up and down through the forests that form part of the Great Dividing Range. They are narrow with many tight bends and very challenging for spirited riding. Fire damage was still very evident in some sections. We regrouped at the bottom of Chum Creek Road before riding over to Yarra Glen for lunch.
The last leg took us up through the steep Mnt Wise cutting on the Eltham-Yarra Glen Road where we rode to the Kangaroo Ground Area marking the end of another most enjoyable mid week run and the last one for 2009.
Thanks again Ed for yet another year great runs.
