Baw Baw 09 PDF Print E-mail
baw_bawThe day started with seven motorcycles at the Chirnside Park Shopping centre car park and a big surprise was Noel Wills who rode from Leopold (via Geelong) to be at the start when we arrived at 8.10, he left home at 5.30.
Adrian Lynch, our back up trailer arrived and by 9.00 we were off. As this is a fairly big ride we went straight through Lilydale to the Warburton Highway through Wandin North, Launching Place and Yarra Junction where we picked up Peter Cullen waiting on the side road for us. It was then through Powelltown and boy if we are going up to Baw Baw it was so cold here what was it going to be like up the top. We came across the AJS Matchless Owners Club on a ride on the Warburton Highway with Classic Club Member Philip Southorn riding with them (traitor) but they turned of before we ran over them.

After morning tea at Noojee we went up the hill in perfect weather and as usual it's the best ride... Tom Myers had a front brake problem loosing all of the fluid due to a big leak and as we didn't have any brake fluid Tom replaced it with water as a just in case for the trip home. We all suggested where he could get the fluid from and someone suggested they stand on a big rock to administer said fluid...

After a short stop at the top of Baw Baw it was back down to Noojee for Lunch. It was a slow trip down for Tom but we all made lunch at Noojee. Norm and Noel Wills left at this point for Noel to head back to Leopold; this must have been a five hundred km plus day and a pretty fair effort.

I grabbed Warwick James for Tail End Charlie duties today and after lunch Warwick headed off after a job well done, Rob King also headed off, the rest of us rode home through Neerim South, Jindivic then through Bayles back skirting Cranbourne. There was a bit of a mix up crossing the Freeway as Tom turned onto it with most following including the Back Up trailer, not to worry I kept on through Narre Warren South and Wellington road back home. By the time I returned back to the Freeway I would have struggled to catch everyone, doing the speed limit and I really hate our Freeways when they are heavy, avoid at all costs.

A big thank you to Adrian and Warwick for their assistance, Adrian got my trailer picked up on Saturday to use and returned it a week later. All up I enjoyed my tenth time up the hill on the mighty Commando with the Good Lady on the back, can't wait for next year...
