Sunday 4th January finally arrived and oh what a beautiful day. Twenty or so classic bikes and a few moderns with riders from as far apart as Gippsland and Rochester presenting themselves in the Bunnings Cranbourne carpark for a 9.30 AM start. We headed out through the back roads of Cranbourne on through Cardinia and on to Bayles for the first regroup and the pick up of another six riders.

We now had the pleasure of more interesting roads taking us out through Yanathan, Lang Lang, Nyora and a morning coffee stop at Loch. The village of Loch is really a beautiful place with a range of interesting antique and craft shops. Also a shed for fossicking that has all sorts of used tools, nick- knacks and equipment. Leaving Loch behind we were now on the best part of the ride. On through Krowera, Blackwood Forrest and Rynanston. This was motorcycling at its best and the views from along the ridge as you looked down into the valleys on either side took your breath away. Leaving the ridge behind we continued down and onto the Wonthaggi State Mine Museum to explore the historic cottages, relics and exhibits. It was now well after 1.00PM and so we made our way up the Highway to the Dalyston Ozone Hotel for a most excellent lunch. Our return journey took us out through Archies Creek, down what must be the most narrow, steep and winding road in Victoria. The final leg of the ride took us back through Nyora, Lang Lang, Bayles and finally back to Bunnings carpark. All riders exulted the days ride as first class. Special thanks must be given to Anne and Doug Anton for providing the back up trailer support. For those who may be interested Norman Cranston and myself will be organizing a two day ride in the Victorian Alps over the March Labour Day long weekend. The Venue will be Harrietville and the rides will be Day One, Mt Hotham, Dinner Plains and Omio, returning the reverse way. Day Two, will be a shorter ride out to Buffalo Lake. Anyone interested please contact Noman on 9795 1696 or Dave on 9786 4063. Dave Baker. |
