Stocky's Run 08 PDF Print E-mail
stocky\'s run dec 08.jpgWe were always going to struggle with number to this event, you may remember that it rained most of Saturday, all Saturday night and even on Sunday morning it was still coming down something akin to Biblical proportions. Yeah I know we need the rain, but this was Stocky's Run surely he could pull some heavenly strings in our favor
I must admit Johns passing made me look at what, when, where and really what's it all about. The last conversation I had with John was along the lines of the scream you'll hear if either of us end up at the Pearly Gates before we retire, there are all those Wednesday rides we need to go on and motorcycles to wear out, lots of living still to do..... I didn't hear the scream.

So it was nine motorcycles who fronted the starter at ten to be lead by Graham Boulter on a nice ride through the Dandenongs, from Polly's at Cockatoo to Berwick back to Sassafras, Monbulk, Emerald, Yellingbo then back to Polly's for a BBQ lunch. It was a real nice ride, some roads I had never been on and some I had forgotten about completely, it amazes me some of those minor road that link up in the Dandenongs and I know that some would have been completely lost because it can be rather confusing up there. The ride was about two and a half hours and not a drop of rain in sight.

On our return to Polly's another dozen turned up for the Barby which was great, we sat around yacking trying to eat all the salads that were supplied, some of us forgot to bring meat for the Barby so Polly made sure there was plenty for all. This is something I must discuss with my good lady, I really thought she could read my mind but not true, thanks for the Snags Polly. Also thanks to all who helped with and supplied the salads. there were a couple of stand outs. One was Jan's Anzacs they were worth the trip alone, the other was when David Langridge said a few words to us all, I thought it possible that because I put up my hand to get the ball rolling on this event I may have to say something and I don't think I could have, fortunately it's the President job to speak and David did a fabulous job, not to personal and not to long not to down, just perfect. It was also the first time I have seen Polly stuck for words she just sat there, what a day.

As we only had about four interested in the afternoon run and two of those didn't care at all, we dispensed with it and sat around talking for what was left of the afternoon. It turned out to be what I would call a great day.

A big thanks to Ian and Jan Kennedy for back up trailer duties and other thanks to David for his words, thanks to Graham for planning and leading the ride, a huge thanks to Polly's family, Glen, Bee, Kaye and the grandkids for being there and their assistance and the biggest thanks to Polly for allowing us to use her property and laugh a lot on what was something that Stocky would have wanted to go on. Polly would like to do it again next year and so would I.
