Presidents Report - April 2008 PDF Print E-mail

If you missed the last General Meeting you missed a very interesting and informative talk by Derek Pickard on the Piaggio MP3 Scooter. The three-wheeler, i.e. two at the front and one at the rear. Derek provided a wooden model to describe the front suspension, which was basically a parallelogram with all four corners pivoting. Possibly the most unique feature was being able to come to a stop and stay upright without putting your feet on the ground. It’s cornering stability and handling apparently excellent. We have quite a few of our members venturing into the scooter scene these days as a very reliable and convenient transport, it’s a big and growing market these day’s.

After the talk we all got stuck into our usual sumptuous supper, which comes at a cost to the club. Last Month we had a short fall of $30 for the night as most of the people only chipped in a dollar. Dig a bit deeper next time chaps and make it $2, still good value.

The planning for The Brass Monkey Rally in July is progressing well, you will find an update in this issue. This will be a prestige event don’t miss it.

Also highly recommended is our club ride to Mt Baw Baw, the weather won’t be too cold and the tourist’s and snow seekers still at least a Month away.

The Motorcycle Expo is on again this year, bigger and better. A four-day event this time. It will be held at Jeff’s Shed again on the lead up and weekend before The Melbourne Cup, i.e. 30th October to2nd November. We are hopping for a top location like we had last year and of course will be looking for at least eight bikes to display. We try to get different one’s each year, some keen bike watchers have quoted and compared bikes they saw last year. Give Jack Youdan or me a ring if you would like to display your bike.

You will find a proxy form in this issue covering all positions up for election at the AGM in July. A few key members are standing down and we need replacements. We are giving you plenty of time to give this matter some serious thought and put something back into the club.

Some members have asked how my 1958DKW RT 350 restoration is progressing. I am pleased to report it is in a fine state of health during its ground up restoration. I have basically a complete bike on two wheels minus the engine/gearbox and electrics. The motor is a total disaster. Does any one have a RT 350 motor tucked under the bed or bench?

Just had my copy No7 of “Old Bike Australia” delivered by the postie. A quick browse indicates it’s still a top magazine and getting better with each issue and it’s all about the Aussie scene.

Keep your classic on the move.
