Presidents Report - September 2007 PDF Print E-mail

It’s coming to good weather again. The Peninsular Preamble on the 8th and 9th of September will have been and gone. The High Country Muster in October is coming up. If you cannot come along for the whole rally I am sure that the organisers would not mind tagging along for the Saturday or Sunday.  As I spoke in the last Sprocket the Weekend Rallies are one of the great features of our Club. Also in Sprocket you will see the beginnings of a new type of Otway Rally based away from Geelong. There are some tempting details in this issue of the direction of the NEW Otway Rally.

Ross Patrick has volunteered to be the Ride Co-Ordinator and this means that he needs to find 12 people during the year to nominate and run the ride. This means that it can be as long or short as the ride leader needs and also the ride leader will also need to help find a back up trailer. This will definitely provide a diversity of rides and hopefully spread north, south, east and west with long, short, fast and slow rides.  Now that should appeal to every body.

Speaking of long runs the subject of the Anniversary Ride is apon us again. There are many years in the planning of this Classic Bike run and we should really start to think of a sub committee to look at where and when. The previous committees spent many kilometres scratching out a route and looking at the accommodation. It is not an easy task to find a bed and food for this amount of people in small country towns. Please contact me if you would like to be on the committee.

Are you restoring a bike ? do you have a rare model ? would you like to come along one night and face a barrage of questions? If so please contact me and we will see if a night is available. Speakers that are non- commercial are hard to find but we need you and your experiences on a Club night.

The web site classicbike.com.au is still developing and Graham has a lot of photographs up to view. If you have been on a Classic Club run or out with some mates e-mail Graham and these can go up on the web photosite. This month Dave Baker has provided a lot of AJS/Matchess information for the site.

At a recent AOMC Meeting  the Vicroads rep suggested that the permit scheme with  modifications such as 45 day permit and permit labels  will be released for the review to the controlling bodies . No costs were mentioned , administration not mentioned and implementation time not mentioned. At least it is a step forward and Vicroads see it important enough to move up the list. It was also stated that this would be a final draft and no other big modifications would be made.

Richard Somerville has taken the bull by the horns or the Sprocket by the key board and has produced his first issue this month. All articles and photos should be sent to him and if something requires translating from hand written to word (computer format) format please allow a bit of extra time. Richard can also scan real photographs so send then along also. If you have a buy , swap or sell also pass it on to Richard.

Watch for a special event coming up at Winton Racetrack. They are celebrating 50 years of racing and motorcycles feature heavily in this history.

For those of you with internet connections go to this site if you want to see how triumph rocket 111’s are built. It is a good laugh especially how the introduce the centre of gravity and power.  Go to      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HKEuzxC4eGc or google to youtube and filter for rocket111. I will also get Graham to put the link on our website for a while.

See you on the road.
