Presidents Report- August 2007
Well the AGM is over again for another year and we again have a really good team together for another term. Still a couple of vacancies with the Vice President and Club Run C00rdinator to fill but things will still happen.
Awards were given out on the night and they are listed in "Sprocket" but I wish to say that these people are always there in the background making things happen. There would be no rallies, Club runs other bits of organization and heaven forbid “catering” at club meeting if it weren’t for these long term members. I say many thanks on behalf of the members.
Speaking of catering, our expenses are being looked at and one of the items is food on the club night. Rather than raise the donation from $1 it has been decided that a gold coin “donation” will be requested. Those who save up all day ready for the feast may feel obliged to give a bit more? The $1 has been in from the Mid 90’s and I can still remember the furore when it went from 50 cents to $1. This is all part of making all things self supporting.
At the last committee meeting badge cost was discuss along with Rallies and ride attendances. Colin Sullivan has a better deal to the Club for the badges and this is greatly appreciated. About 20-30 new members per year are not a high cost for new member badges but it is the 10,15,20 ,25 and 30 year badges that add up we are looking at these to see what we can do in the way of a different type of badge for each 5 year group.
Rallies and rides have come up for a fair bit of discussion at the last meeting. So far we have the too long, too short ,too fast and too slow problems being put forward but we really may have to look at a different way of running the events. Starting points, speed of run and length of Club runs may vary a bit in the future.
Rallies will definitely follow the successful formula of Colac, High Country and The Brass Monkey with being self catering to keep costs down . This seems to be the biggest factor in rally attendance.
Speaking of Rallies , where is everyone? For those who have not been on one you are missing out on of the greatest experiences in the Club. At the last Brass monkey tea stop we had 40 odd bikes and riders all having a great talk fest about the merits of their bikes around the hills of West Gippsland. A stirring site. People line the roads when we pass , children wave and many people come up and talk about what they used to ride.
Come on , give it a go.
Still no news on the Permit front and the latest round of Ministry shuffling may delay it further.
See you on the road
