Picnic Day Report PDF Print E-mail

THE PICNIC POSTSCRIPT……………….

Despite some adverse weather conditions on the Saturday, I am happy to report that the Club picnic day, on the Sunday, was a success, with a total of 66 entrants consisting of both bikes and outfits from 1919 to 1986. Steady rain on the Saturday, which we believe caused some entrants to reconsider, meant that the ground was a little soggy under foot in the morning, but dried out remarkably with sunshine and a freshening breeze by early afternoon.

The BBQ put on by the Whittlesea Men’s Shed was well supported, and the M.C. duties were expertly handled by David Langridge. A number of volunteers, who I would like to thank here, carried out their various duties with cheery efficiency. These included John Best, Sue Cullen, Ross Patrick, Jol Dunn, Richard Haughton, Richard Sommerville, Ray Isles, Burger Drake, Graham Boulter, Kaye DiClemente and Jack Youdan. Apologies if I have missed anybody. My grateful thanks also to John Best for organising the entry form and Graham Boulter for taking charge of the P.A. And of course, the 66 brave souls; who with family and friends braved the vagaries of the weather in a Whittlesea paddock for the day.

I will let the photos do the talking, however I believe everyone attending had a good time.

In closing, I have in mind that old saying, “never rest on your laurels” and to that end, we look to the next picnic day, in say 2-3 years time. To say that this past event was outstanding, would be drawing a bit of a long bow; and we have taken on board your suggestions and comments which will ensure that next time the picnic day will be bigger and better than ever.

Peter Cullen.
