Presidents Report - Nov 2011 PDF Print E-mail

October has slipped by and we are getting closer to the silly season, there just seems to be everything happening all at once, not only with club events and activities, but work breakups, family get togethers among other things. It seems the old saying is correct “the older you get the quicker time goes” isn’t that true in today’s society.

Speaking of club events, those who attended Bill Weedon’s ride to Werribee to view the Liberator that is being restored, then back to his residence in Laverton for a B/B/Q and social afternoon whilst watching the Moto GP at Philip Island certainly had a pleasant and enjoyable get together.

Our club ride day to Healesville was very well supported with a greater number of classics attending as you will read in the ride report further on in Sprocket.

I would like to personally comment on the club run notice in the October Sprocket regards the Healesville ride, it contained four very important factors which I feel encouraged more classic on the ride especially single cylinders.

Firstly, the ride started a little later 9.30/10am, it told us we would be travelling at 80 km/h, also the distance and last but very importantly an approximate finish time 2.30pm, well done.

Onto some other club issues, by the time you read this our Club Picnic Day at Whittlesea will only be a few days away, so come along, it doesn’t matter if that machine of yours in the shed isn't going nor seen daylight for a few years, bring it out, dust it off and stick in the lineup, there is always someone keen to cast an eye over it or they may even be restoring one and could do with a few helpful pointers.

At the Thomas’s property where our Picnic Day is taking place, there will be an area sectioned off in the centre for motorcycles to be displayed, around the outside of that there will be a marked area where at designated times a small number of motorcycles will be able to do the occasional lap or two.

As we are on private property the motorcycle does not have to be registered, however they must be in safe working order for the safety of the rider and others eg: Clutch and brakes.

A crash helmet MUST be worn any time the motorcycle is being ridden; this is a stipulation by the club’s insurers.

Thanks to those who have contacted Bill or myself regards their intention to attend the “Over the Top by Default Rally” next March, the entry form is in this Sprocket ,could you fill it out and return it to me as soon as possible.
