Presidents Report - June 2011
Seems it’s that time of the year when things slow a little in the club, the weather has a big bearing on our activities over the next couple of months . If we look back between January and now plenty has happened, but don’t forget the “Three Rivers” in Geelong on Sunday 19th June, details are in the Sprocket.
As you will read in the treasurers report the Beechworth Bonanza 40th Anniversary Rally run at a profit, this was totally unexpected but better than having a loss. As your President, a position I value and respect, whilst running an open and transparent club I have no issues with disclosing and standing by our Beechworth Rally balance sheet.
I will now explain how this came about, two years prior when we had our first planning meeting at Seymour, the total number of entrants was eighty maximum and we had to do a costing projection on that number. In the last few weeks before the rally, due to requests by members wanting to be part of the rally we decided to totally book out all three accommodation venues, thus another seventeen entries.
Other factors that added to this was the raffle that David ran so well, people bought a lot more tickets than expected and that was successful. With Tuesdays ride being cancelled we saved a day’s bus hire, fuel and lunch costs, as well the bus owner asked would we swap to a smaller vehicle on the Thursday as he needed the bigger one for another hire, because we worked in with him he looked after us well when it came payment time. The two dinners at the Hibernan Hotel, morning teas and lunches came in under our estimates. So as you can see, a lot of factors played a role in arriving at a profit.
Further on in Sprocket you will read that we are running a four day rally from Myrtleford in March 2012, those who participated in the Beechworth Rally will have free entry to this event as a token of good will from the club due to the cancellation of the Tuesday ride through Falls Creek, Omeo and Hotham, which was under snow on the day.
We all know our club doesn’t frivously donate or waste money. It is turned back into club events eg:The club picnic day in November at Whittlesea, hall hire for meetings, insurance’s, supper cost,Sprocket printing and postage, stationary plus a host of other incidentals that go into the running of a club of this size.
