Your club had a small stand at the November 2010 Melbourne Motorcycle Expo, aiming to promote the CMCCV and build club membership.
Judging by the dozens of visitor discussions and the taking of club membership forms we should have achieved these aims------early 2011 will tell.
Obviously we featured the “right” two bikes on the stand; Wally Walsh’s 1974 Kawasaki Z1A and Graham Boulter’s 1973 U.S. Bonneville T140V, as comments from the lookers included (many times)-------
“I am restoring one of those”, “Got one in the shed”, “Going to put it on a red plate”, “ Wow, a Z1!”, “Mine was/is the Brit.spec”, “Saw the film Stone/Mad Max with the Z1” and the classic “I should never have sold that bike”.
Perhaps the most unusual story was the guy who ordered a 2010 Bonneville at the Triumph stand and brought their staff to our stand to show how he wanted it customized¾ handlebars and exhausts just like Graham’s bike.
Then there was the man who recently inherited an “81ZI from a deceased estate-----
“Pick it up next week, haven’t seen it but they tell me it’s a good one”.
Ray Isles and I put the show together, with much-appreciated staffing assistance from Bill Weedon and Noel Wills. Thanks to all involved.
Should our Membership Secretary Wayne be happy with the number of new members joining, we will probably participate in the next Melbourne Expo in 2012.
Jack Youdan.
