Once again October proved to be a very active month for our members, but
often this happens you get a time when nothing seems to be going on then
things all seems to fall at the same time.
The club run to the RAA F Point Cook Aircraft Museum was well attended and
a great success, with a BBQ afternoon back at Bills while watching the
Moto GP on the telly and a chat made it a very relaxing day.
As you read through this month's sprocket you will see that the Girder Fork
Rally in Cooma last month was attended by quite a number of classic club
members, I have only attended one of these events, last year's, and it was
excellent and from what I hear, apart from it being very cold, actually snowing
whilst they were riding in the rally, all that attended had an enjoyable time.
In the motoring section of the AGE, Saturday 16th October , Jay Leno had an
article on funny snippets from owner's manuals of cars and motorcycles, I will
quote some of Jays articles;
The Stanley Steamer car’s is one of the funniest manuals I our own.
Now, don't forget you're driving a car made of wood and on fire, in the Stanley
manual it says “If flames start licking over the front of the hood, shut off fuel
and increase speed until the flames blowout”.
In one of his Vincent manuals it says “After 1000 miles, disassemble engine,
check everything, reassemble.” That is one of his favourite quotes.
He also claims the Japanese have some good ones as well, here's a quote from
his 1960 Honda motorcycle owner's manual “At the rise of the hand of a
policeman stop rapidly. Do not pass him by or otherwise disrespect him”.
Further on in his article still talking about his Honda motorcycle manual it
comes to dogs, quote “ Even more importantly, give big space to the festive dog
that makes sport in the roadway. Avoid entanglement of dog with wheel spokes.
Your safety is our main concern. Ride, ride and be safe. Instructables can be
confusables.” end of quote.
Anyone who is unfamiliar with Jay, if you Google Jay Leno’s garage, the
collection of cars and motorcycles that the owns is incredible, well worth a
look.
So now we're into November and Christmas is just around the corner, our
club has some good rides and events on and the weather has picked up, let's get
those bikes out of the shed and hope to see you soon.
