Presidents Report
June 2010
As you are all aware our AGM is next month and we are losing our most capable and very
efficient secretary Elaine. Seems she has found pastures greener up Maldon way so she's
heading northwest and this has our committee and club members looking for
someone to put their hand up for the position of secretary.
Elaine will be greatly missed especially at committee meetings, as she always seemed to have
a knack of pulling us back into line when the “party got out of hand”.
At the moment we have a very good committee everyone gets along well all the business and
issues that may arise get dealt with and we have a bit of fun along the way, it's not all
starched collar and rubber stamping.
At AGM's as you know all positions are declared vacant, this year we will be looking for
an extra couple of members to come onto the committee, by our Constitution we should have
eleven on it so we are going to be out there perhaps tapping you on the shoulder and asking
you to give it a go. As I said before it is interesting and good to see what actually goes on
behind the “scenes”in the running of a club this size and also a great way to get to know the
members a little better along the way.
When I chose to go on the committee two years ago several days later I thought to myself
what have I done! Two trips a month to Melbourne each being 260 km round trip and at
night as well, have I lost the plot I thought? however looking back it has been a great time
and a fantastic learning curve for me.
Never have I expected a pat on the back or whatever for the distances travelled to both
meetings each month, that is of my own choosing and I enjoy doing it but if you live in
Melbourne and someone asks you to take up a position in the club please don't let me hear
the excuse it's too far to the meetings.
Please remember no one owns the club, the club is us, we are it!!. In the past it has had good
leadership so let's keep it up and have the same into the future as well, don't hold back give it
a go, remember: He that stands in the valley will never cross the mountain!
On other club matters for May once again it was an eventful month for members the
midweek ride was well attended and our heritage ride was a great success as you will read in
the reports in this month’s sprocket .
I must pass comment that the rides are really catering for classics very well the distances,
amount of stops and the speeds have been very well suited for the older bikes and this makes
for a very lay back and relaxing days riding and it is all so very encouraging to see
them coming out of the sheds once again.
