For those of you who weren't at our April meeting or never read the sprocket completely may wonder why Paul hasn't written this month’s report...
Well he and I have changed hats, due to his work and business commitments, he felt that he couldn't give the club the time and attention it demanded.
The good thing about being acting president for a short period before our AGM not only gives me a sample of what being a president entails, but also the members get to have a look at what he might be like before they get to vote.
However having said that I hope I can keep the members happy, the good rides coming and the comradeship we all share and enjoy with each other (and coax more classic’s out of sheds).
April has come and gone which means one third of the year has already flown by, never went is quick when I was going to school, months seem to go as quick as a week used too back then, even young ones today comment how fast time goes must be that we cram so much into our life, but remember there must always be time for motorcycles.
As you read through this month’s sprocket you will see we had a couple of very good rides one was the midweek and the other was our club run.
Fortunately I was able to attend both of these and found them very enjoyable.
The midweek rides are proving very popular with member as we can see the number of riders participating is increasing and 10/10 to Ed Sleightholm for the way in which he handles them, I have never come across another person who has a memory of roads or direction like he does, the man is a walking roadmap.
Anyone who is thinking of going on a ride but perhaps hesitates because they may think the start is too far away, do as I often do, give the ride leader a ring and ask where they're headed and quite often you can pick them up along the way, for example the April midweek ride was starting on the Calder freeway near Thunder Dome, so I rang Ed and asked where he was headed and he told me to wait 7 km up the Gisborne Rd from Bacchus Marsh at 9:20 am. This cut a lot of Km’s and time off for me, so don't be afraid to pick up the phone and ask, their numbers are always in the sprocket.
On a more serious note the committee and our Sunday ride coordinator, Reg Hammond, are always desperately looking for someone to host a (Sunday) ride in their area, it doesn't have to be a big event by any means. Just 150 km or so, somewhere for lunch and a good coffee, no one knows your local area like you do!!
So please, contact Reg, myself or any committee member as we would be only too happy to assist in having a day ride in your area, yes your area!
