Presidents Report - February 2009 PDF Print E-mail

As we set sail into 2009 in many ways we are sailing into uncharted waters.Every day the news seems to get worse than the day before.I sincerely hope that we all get through the year  in good shape and have a successful year with our Club activities.

You will notice that we have a new Sprocket cover. This was a real team effort .We became aware just after Chritmas that we had run out of Covers. As there was no Judging Day last year  we did not have a winner to put on the Cover. After discussion with Ray Isles he set to arrange the whole thing. Colin Borthwick was prepared to allow us to use his Hesketh. This was duly photographed by Kay DiClemente and sent on to Copy Cat for the new Cover to be prepared. My sincere thanks to all involved and it was a true example of the good will and team spirit that exists in the Club..

The Hesketh was built by Thomas Alexander Hesketh the third Baron Hesketh. After being involved in Formula 1 he decided to move into motorcycle production. The concept really gathered pace in 1977 with a wooden mock up of the 900cc V twin engine. The original engine was built by Ron Valentine and the bike was styled by John Mockett.A running prototype was unvailed in 1980.

Production ran until 14th of June 1982 when production ceased after only 150 machines were built The Company went into receivership. There are very few of these machine in Australia and I think Colin's would be amongst the best.

Ride safely and have a great year.

David Langridge.
